Option 1: Write a personal memoir exploring a moment from your childhood, ideally age 6 or younger.

Option 2: Write a memoir about a distant relative of yours, such as a great-grandparent (there’s no harm in taking artistic license with unknown details).

Blackout poetry

Create blackout poetry (either physically or by using this website). Here are some pieces of advice:

  • Glance at the page without reading all of the text

  • Bracket words/phrases that strike you

  • Consider whether you’re making a poem out of “big” words (nouns, verbs, etc.) or if you want to incorporate “connecting” words (“the,” “and,” etc.)

    • Use a pencil first to experiment with multiple setups
